N.Z.
In the 1960's, my father, Richard F. Challis, had a job which involved a lot of international travel. He wrote up his experiernces in the form of the novel, "When Angels Travel". I call it a novel because that is what my father called it, but the incidents in the book actually happened, and it is more accurate than many books claiming to be factual. The main fictional part is that he wrote it as a single big trip while in actual fact the trips were done over about 4 years, and he visited most of the places several times. While this was going on, our family migrated from England to Australia, so my father was based in England for the European visits, but in Australia for the rest. The incident in the epilogue happened while we were living in England.
Although my father tried to get the book published, his agent was unable to find a suitable publisher. Authors like to have their work read; I hope my father would approve of me putting his book onto the World Wide Web.
Some of the things in the book are out of date, and some countries he visited no longer exist or have changed their names.
Words
Some of the words used have changed their meaning, and a word that was neutral when my father used it could be offesive now in some places. I have kept the original words my father used. Any notes I have put are in blue to distiguish them from the novel.
Pictures
The Book my father wrote had no illustrations. I have added a few from many different sources. Naturally, this does not imply that these sources endorse the novel, nor that I endorse the sources. Not all the Illustrations are of the correct period.
